So, here's the plan. I am going to see Evie and Cherie and James in Guernsey very very soon. And I can't wait to get there. I'll get to hang out with some of my favourite people on a beautiful, if a bit chilly at this time of year, island. If you haven't been to Guernsey (and lets face how many of you have, except you Kerry) the link below will give you a wee taste of where I'll be spending the next few weeks Guernsey??
Its one of the Channel Islands, part of the UK but closer to France than Britain. The lovely Haughton whanau have been living there for over 5 years. They live in St Peter Port, the main township which is according to the publicity:
'....a captivating blend of styles, framed by a tumble of terraces and tiered gardens and criss-crossed by worn steps and hidden alleys'.
Before the kids went there my knowledge of the Channel Islands was limited to what I learnt from watching John Nettles in Bergerac (before he moved to the equally picturesque but much more murder-prone Midsummer) and before that a few episodes of 'Enemy at the Door'. Now I know a little more but I'm looking forward to finding out much more and exploring the island with 3 year old Evie as my guide. Hopefully she has been paying attention when going out and about and will be able to give me clear directions to all the best places to see.
The adventure starts when I arrive on 9th February. In the meantime I am making lots of lists (I love making lists), pulling out all the winter clothes (not as much fun as the list writing), lamenting my poor packing technique and trying to remember where I put that multi-coloured striped woollen hat I got at the last Kathmandu sale.
I am so excited Bronie is off to Guernsey! Evie will have no trouble leading Aunty Bronie astray as there is so much to do on Guernsey - so much to see, places to go. This beautiful island is best described as 3/4 old english country and 1/4 french in influence. The streets, all named in french, are quaint and cobble stoned. Only the smallest of cars can drive through the country lanes that criss cross all over the small island. It's divine.
